The last time I wrote, we were going into winter and here we are
again entering into a gorgeous summer.I so love the idea of first
experiencing spring before the summer hits us but to no avail in
this lovely land of ours! Summer comes with a vengeance and the
beautiful longer hair that we have been cultivating just has to
go! I do like this time of year because of the challenges it brings
with changing styles.
Clients enter the salon and you know that she wants to look and
feel different. She also wants you to be one step ahead and suggest
something that will suit her, be manageable and of course she has
to be drop dead gorgeous!
We are so fortunate to live in a time such as this in terms of
self expression. I am finding that clients are so much more adventurous
and so open to doing something different with their particular
look. We are able to really personalize a haircut as we have never
done before. I find that the perception is one of "I want my own
particular image and I want to wear it with confidence." As a result,
we as stylists, can be as creative as what we will allow ourselves.
The client arrives in the salon with expectations of a particular
look she would like to have. We then have the task of fulfilling
her visual expectations. How do we get to give her what she wants?
Well ... sit her down and go through all the options ... find out
what she dislikes! This works for me ... If I avoid what she does
not want to see in a style, I can create a look that will be pleasing
to her. So often, a client says that she dislikes red ... that
is such a broad statement. Show the lady the colour chart and eliminate
the shades of red she dislikes. Generally speaking, my experience
has been that clients have a good idea of what suits them and therefore
they should be included in the creative aspect of their hair.
What a privelage to make people look good each day and send them
out into their own worlds realising their own potential just a
little more each time. Thank you that you give me the opportunity
to give expression to my own god-given gift...

What a start to summer! Here at Mark Anthony’s we've had
the privelage of being part of many special occassions. As of September
we've had the responsible task of turning many young school girls
into gorgeous princesses for their matric dance. For many girls
this is their first "Big Night," and we go out of our way to make
the experience a memorable one, from start to finish!
Apart from the dress, I feel that the make-up plays the most important
role in how the girl feels and what she looks like on the special
day. People have a good look at the dress, briefly notice the detail
like shoes and jewellery, but for the most part, they will be looking
in your eyes, focusing on your face and that is why make-up must
be suitable, not overbearing and applied and blended with great
care. The products used must be of a high quality and still be
intact by the end of the evening.
Spring time is also a popular time for weddings. I am always amazed
at how a bride blossoms on her special day. Whether she is 18 or
80 there is a radiance about her that makes my job much easier.
It is sad when a bride stints on her make-up by not having a professional
do it for her. Too often a well meaning friend or relative with
no skill in the art of make-up has spoilt the brides day. By either
using inferior make-up that does not last or by creating unblended
lines and unflattering shine ... all bad qualities that spoil her
life time memory of her special day ...the photos!
If you have a special day coming up, please have your make-up
done by someone you can trust ... you will not regret it!
As fashions change, make-up does too. Currently there are two
popular routes that can be taken.
There is a definite trend to wear stronger colour on the eyes,
a fresh peachy or pinkish glow on the apple of the cheek and for
the younger girls even a glossy cheek looks great. The big no is
the dark lips with dark eyes ... yes - paler lips are in!
The other trendy look are natural, nude eyes. Simply some eyeliner,
a touch of colour on the cheeks and in this case, a strong lip
colour ia a must! Reds are great. Do remember thin lips don't look
good if they are too dark!
Come on ...go and experiment and if you get stuck, help is at
hand! A make-up lesson is always a wonderful investment.
Lastly I want to add that we have introduced a local skincare
range called IV-League. An amazing product! Much research has gone
into this product and compares very favourably with whats happening
internationally. The range is very affordable and consists of a
few products so as to not complicate and yet the results we are
seeing are exceptional. For more info, please contact me.
Till next time...
